BNNVARA

My internship at BNNVARA has been an incredible experience, allowing me to dive deep into video editing, content creation, and social media strategy within one of the Netherlands’ largest public broadcasters. BNNVARA creates impactful, thought-provoking content that sparks discussion and challenges perspectives. My role is part of the brand channel team, where I contribute to both structured media content and dynamic social media projects.

My responsibilities are split between two main areas: Portal and Socials. For Portal, I select key moments from assigned programs and transform them into media articles for the BNNVARA website. For Socials, my work is more varied, I edit short-form videos in different formats and made content that aligns with BNNVARA’s digital presence. Some tasks are straightforward, like trimming and resizing pre-selected clips, while others allow for more creative freedom, such as compiling themed highlight reels or producing unique, engaging edits. Beyond this, I’ve contributed to marketing campaigns, trailers, and promotional videos, ensuring that BNNVARA’s content reaches audiences effectively.

Throughout my internship, I’ve produced over 160 social media videos, written 70 media articles, and contributed to multiple branded content projects. Knowing that a video I edited has surpassed a million views is already an incredible feeling, but with a total combined view count exceeding 25 million, and two of BNNVARA’s top 20 most-watched TikToks made by me (1, 2), it’s something I’m truly proud of.

When my internship came to an end, I genuinely felt a sense of sadness. I had enjoyed every part of it, even the five-hour daily commute to Hilversum. Fortunately, the feeling was mutual. The team was incredibly happy with my work, to the point where feedback was almost nonexistent. As one of my supervisors put it: “I’m quite thorough with giving feedback, but with you, I really had to think hard to come up with even one small thing.”

Looking back, I’d almost say that I learned more in these five months than in the past three years at school. This internship was more than just a professional experience, it was a defining period that solidified my passion for media, content creation, and storytelling.
