WAT LUL JE NOU?!
One day at the BNNVARA office, I overheard a conversation about a new experimental show being developed for Twitch and YouTube. The goal was to test whether Twitch could be a viable platform for reaching a younger audience. They were looking for a video editor, so I asked my internship supervisor if I could take on the extra workload alongside my regular tasks. He gave me the green light, and that’s how I became involved in my first full-production show.
WAT LUL JE NOU?! is a live show hosted by Shappo0, where he and his guests discuss a wide range of topics with young people. Each episode centers around a unique theme, often featuring an expert to provide deeper insights. The discussions ranged from biohacking to traditional gender roles, making every episode unique and engaging.
My role in the show involved three key responsibilities: spotting content, editing the mini-documentary for the YouTube episodes, and selecting the best moments for BNNVARA’s social media channels.
The mini-documentary segment at the end of each episode was my favorite task. I had almost complete creative freedom, aside from the restriction that it could not exceed three minutes. Some weeks, I had up to 20 minutes of raw footage, meaning I had to make tough editing decisions to distill the essence of the segment. I was responsible for everything: the editing, color grading, music selection, and final cuts. In total, I created six mini-documentaries!
One of the best experiences during this project was attending two of the six live recordings in person. Being there meant I got to have dinner with the team beforehand, experience the behind-the-scenes atmosphere, and manage the chat during the live broadcast from a separate room. Seeing the audience engage with the content in real-time added a whole new dimension to the editing work I was doing.
WAT LUL JE NOU?! was more than just a project, it was an opportunity to work on a full-scale live production, collaborate with a team, and hone my skills in long-form and short-form content editing.
